It's sad really I didnt go to the show because they all seem boring these days.
I can remember the motorcycle shows of the past at Earls court, Vincent square etc. You used to Que for an hour to go in, food and drink have always been a rip off but at least there where bucket loads of interesting bikes and stands to visit. these days you can see most there is to see in one large dealer show room or on the net.
Sadly motorcycling is a shadow of it's former self now that legislation and the high cost of insurance has pushed out most of the younger riders.

Being an old fart, I also remember old shows with Vincents, and Norton, BSA, Matchless, Triumph etc. etc.. Maybe just the old rosy glasses thing, where you remember everything better than it really was. Think the shows have got worse but have a different problem now, because we don't really have our own car or bike industry anymore (sorry Triumph!) so therefore we don't carry any weight anymore. There are more shows all over the world and Lorenz90 got it right when he went to Italy rather than the NEC last year. Seems like all the main manufacturers made the same decision. We always seem to be classed as second rate these days and people can't be bothered to come here, certainly the case when clashes with something like Italy. The NEC was worst I've seen for a while, filled out with cheap scooters, Kiddie bikes and associated clothing, and nothing else really cheap other than the well publicised "smoke damaged" helmets.

Glad I didn't go now, I was thinking about it but didn't have the time.
As others have said, the best shows nowadays are abroad, and it's the main manufacturers that dictate the agenda. To blame MCN in a way is disingenuous, does anyone really think they wanted the Japanese etc not to turn up? Having signed the contract to stage the show they've got to advertise/publicise it the best way they can.
It's hard to believe, given the slagging off they always get on forums, but MCN probably don't want to hack off their readers deliberately.

And the reply from MCN -
Dear David, Thank you for writing to us about the London Motorcycle Show. We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the event and did not find it value for money. MCN spent a considerable amount of time visiting and liaising with all key manufacturers on their attendance at our event this year. Whilst we actively encouraged them to support our show the final decision was down to the individual companies. We were very happy that BMW, Ducati and KTM supported our event but we share in your disappointment that there was no direct representation from other major manufacturers. This said, we did receive support on our feature areas that allowed visitors to see some of the latest models in the sports bike, naked, cruiser and adventure features. We are very sorry that the range of bikes/model you were looking for was not represented at our event, we are working closely with manufacturers to hopefully change this for next year. Your feedback has been appreciated. Kind regards, MCN events
I take it that means 'tough sh1t, thanks for your contribution to our summer party'

Still not going again

The Mrs and I went to the MILAN SHOW a coulple of years back.. What a blast. we vowed never to do an english motorcycle show again.
The parking was free, the food choice was amazing and it was also cheap. The outside show was also brilliant. The NEC could fit inside the Milan show 5 times over. There was one moaning old guy that paid a visit while I was there, he used to race in motogp but no one wants him anymore
We only did one day but could not finish looking around. I think we may go again this year but stay for at least 3 days just to make sure we see everything.
Well worth going on easyjet or ryanair then getting some digs.

Oh you lot!
You had me going there
When did you all get together to hatch this wind up then? I feel such an idiot now ... I admit it, you'd taken me in - I believed you.
Just seen MCN and clearly it was a major success. Even the organisers were stunned and had to open another hall and put on more staff. People were blown away by the bikes on show.
Plenty of letters saying what a great show it was .... not one moaning - you never see that in MCN for any other event - show, race meeting or anything!
So clearly you lot have succeeded I AM Mr Gullible.
Glad that in reality you must all have enjoyed yourselves - silly me for missing out.

Big Bro at ExCeL
Big Brother auditions were held at the MCN London Motorcycle Show for two days as a mobile interview team attempted to find 'real motorcyclists' to take part in Big Brother 8 this summer.
The auditions were held under an awning next to the MCN stand and had been organised in total secrecy to avoid attracting any Big Brother wannabes rather than real people who were already at the show.
Big Brother hopefuls filled in application forms and then had an interview filmed by the crew. No one at the show was allowed to talk about the auditions.
Theyre clearly all Big Brother wannabes!

No, you're right D-Rider. You caught me out. It was an excellent show, truly excellent. The beer was free, the MCN girls (all dolls, each and every one) catered to your every whim. Every single manufacturer was there giving away top of the line stuff. We just wanted to keep it quiet so we could do it all again next year.
