They want us to do WHAT!!??

The United Nations has said that the UK must consider whether they should keep the Royal Family.

The UN's Human Rights Council said the Government should 'think' about holding a referendum on the issue, to see if people would prefer to live in a Republican state with a written constitution.

The monarchy costs each adult in Britain around 62p a year - but even groups representing taxpayers said there was no case for getting rid of it.

The council has 29 members including Saudi Arabia, Cuba and Sri Lanka.

It was the Sri Lankan envoy who raised concerns over the British monarchy.

But a Royal spokesman has said the public haven't haven't displayed any appetite for a referendum.

The UN report was also critical of the UK's treatment of immigrants from Sudan.

Syria accused the UK of discriminating against Muslims and Iran complained about the UK's record on tackling sexual discrimination

Hold on.. Who the **** do they think they are?!

Bring on the republic .... please ....

..... trouble is a referendum probably wouldn't deliver it - what with the cult of Monarchy fanned on by the tabloids and still bolstered by the memory of the patron saint Diana ..............

Diana? She wasnt Monarchy, Not even close.

Whether or not we should have a Monarchy is besides the point, The point is who the fek do the UN think they are to tell US what we should be doing?

It's laughable.. We get shat on by the UN, EU and NATO... Our allies allegedly.. and now they want to advise us on how to run Great Britain?

Encole, Merci Bien..

I'm with Kwackerz - I'm not that bothered one way or the other about the monarchy but I an damn sick of other countries telling us how to run ours!

And if any of the - whoever nationalities - that live in this country don't like it, they are perfectly free to go anywhere else they please - I'm not gonna stop them, nor is our government or even our MONARCH!

The United Nations is a spent force anyway and they're just demonstrating that, coming up with crackpot stuff like this.

Have they yet told Zimbabwe thay they should get rid of their dictatorship?

mAYBE THEY ARE JUST A BIT FED UP OF US TELLING THEM HOW TO RUN THEIR COUNTRIES. cOULDNT POSSIBLY BE THAT WE ARE GETTING BACK WHAT WE GIVE OUT COULD IT? Sorry for the caps - this bl**!"*** keyboard is onb its way out.

And D rider - you cant say "bring it on" without saying what you would put in place of Liz and family. Blair? Someone off East Enders? Branson? David Davies?
Thats the real problem. One thing at least with the present system is that the incumbents arent scrabbling to get the job for the money and perks like Blair would be - my guess is that they would heave a joint sigh of relief if we did go republican and they could wander off into obscurity with the family dosh.

To put it another way - Bush and Chirac were both elected heads of state. As was Putin. As indeed is Mugabe. As was Franco, which is maybe why the Spanish went back to a royal family.

Ok, you lot provoked me. Foreigner's point of view.

It makes me sick and sad when I look at the way Brits treat foreigners (wherever they come from) and the way Brits are being treated by them.

You are letting minorities to rip you off your rights in the name of equality and fairness. Bollocks.

If any foreigner wants more rights than you have in your own country, he/she should be shown the way to the nearest ferry to go find them somewhere else.

Don't forget I'm Polish, and I have a right to have a go at you and other minorities, because I am a minority (will see for how long :smt016) and you cannot touch me. :smt006

Besides, I'm moving back to Poland soon, and you'll never trace me back anyway. Don't even try or I call my Wolomin mafia mates who will be happy to assist me in my foreign affairs.

Disclaimer:
If I am not banned for what I just said, it either means that you have a sense of English (sic!) humour or that you know I'm damn right. Or you are really afraid of me, which would make me really sorry for you. :smt010

Nope (besides, he's a bit too dead to do the job)

It's just that I can see no good reason for privilege being based on your ancestry .... or some other country's ancestry when there's a bit of a hiccup in your own nation's family of privilege.

BTW Sab - when are you heading back to Poland? Are you taking the Falco with you? I guess it will enhance the international nature of our forum.

End the year. And you'd have to take my La Sporca out of my dead body's cold hands. I'm gathering all possible spares already...

BTW: there will be an immaculate UK spec headlight available for sale shortly. No use in PL.
