Got me a new bike carrier

Ford P100

Any one know which vehicals I can get parts for (seirra is obvious :smt002 ) I am mostly interested in engine parts like which cars andvans use the same engine. Reason being is that the turbo is suspect and may need replacing.

Plans are afoot (after getting it roadworthy) like Ramps and rampholder, electric winch and a storage box for tiedowns and tools etc

Underneath is solid but upper bodywork lets it down a bit, its nothing I cant handle though. I got it for £150 which is about all I will pay for somthing without an MOT. I am quite pleased overall

I wonder if its the same one I saw (amongst about 6 other P100's) at Rolls in 94?

The number plate sorta looks familiar. :smt005

Just the thing we need! Trouble is we can't affort to tax and insure another vehicle.

I did see one a while ago that was based on the XR4x4 and had the V6 engine in it which would have been fun. Not sure what the state any bike in the back would be like after ragging it round the twisties though.

Not being funny, but would the floorplan take decent enough anchorpoints to secure a motorcycle safely? The P100 has never struck me as being very robust as far as the body goes

I hear what you are saying, I will be fitting some to the base but with some backing plate to spread the load. I used to work in a bike shop in Okehampton and they had a Cortina based P100 It was a bin but it never had any probs carrying bikes of all sizes. The biggest problem was getting the bike on the back (which is why I am getting a 12v winch).

I have been stripping out the cab over the last few days for a number of reasons. I needed to find an electrical fault, check the body for rust (especially around the bottom of the windscreen) sort out the heater cables and generally give it a clean.
I am happy to say that there is no rust anywhere in the cab, it is solid. I sorted the electrics out, the heater cables had just come off so I replaced them in their correct slots and the carpet was minging so I got a jet wash on it and gave it a good clean, it is now slowly drying in the shed.

Got to bleed the brakes after that because they have air in the system. I will be checking the shoes, pads and cylinders as I progress.

Still plenty to do but it is worth it. I am looking forward to getting it on the road.

That should be just the job, i also used to work at a bike dealers in the 80's who used a P100 to move bikes about it was nice and sturdy, as long as the back is solid you should be fine, you could always board it out with a bit of marine ply or something to hold the tie down points securly or weld in some plates,

I'd also agree with check the cam belt for cracking, and replace it if it looks iffy along with the water pump, should see you right.
I'll do slow when I'm dead :smt026
