On a more serious note, I've had a cheap-n-nasty Laser, a cheap Shoei, an expensive AGV and now an expensive Shoei.

The Laser was not that wonderful, the cheap Shoei (TF-70, if I remember right) was pretty good. The AGV had crap sealing around the visor, so whenever I rode in the rain I ended up with a waterfall down the inside of the visor. The new Shoei is prone to fogging _way_ too easily.

I tried on a Shark (or was it a Suomi?) and it was a brilliant fit and felt like with weighed nothing. I would have bought it except the price was astronomical.

As other people have said - get one that fits. (Both your head and your budget.)

Fair point. My comment was based on the rumours that the BMW's could fly apart on impact. Then I had a Lazer flip front thingy with the slide down dark visor and full internal face mask. Cool as get out and never fogged up, but the chin piece was so thin I'm not certain it was even certified as a full face

Tried one of the Shark lids on, really liked it, it was very light and comfortable, except the chin-bar was very, very close to my chin. Had a Shoei XR1000 for the last couple of years, equally impressed and I've been happy with it all the way.

I agree with Viking's comment about fogging the visor on the Shoei, anything below about 18deg and the visor mists every time you exhale - not good for that roundabout approach on a chilly morning :smt004 :smt087 But, the pinlock inserts are pretty good (got one on the clear visor), and I bought an Oxford Huff that does the job when I've got the dark visor on.

Shoei over everything I've ever tried. If it fits your head - go for it. Z-One I have beats X-Lite (X-902) I bought as a treat to D.U.S.T. everywhere.

X-902:
It is a high quality item but:
- has poor ventilation (compared to Z-One);
- is quite heavy (compared to Z-One);
It is very comfortable, has overcomplicated (but working) visor system. Pinlocks as standard. Removable lining. Very quiet and aerodynamic. Very nice graphics. Looks super-cool.
I've always preferred my old Z-One to it, though. It is just better.
Because of that I don't use it much...
RRP was 299 when new, but it is discontinued now. I think.
I wouldn't pay for it that money. You get far more quality with Shoei. Less gimmicks though.

Thanks Chaps

I have now tried a variety of lids

AGV - Squashed Ears
Arai - Squashed nose (and thats withity being broken several times!!!)
HJC - poor finish
Shoei Raid - Excellent fit
Roof 020 - Great fit
X-lite - very comfy
Nolan - not as good as x-lite!!!
Shark - couldnt get a tight fit and no dd fastenings!! :smt011

So now its down to graphis and price

Shoei - Nucleus TC6 RRP £250 best I can find £200
Xlite - White Mask RRP £300 best £270 (or an Elias rep £170)
Roof - Racer RRP £285 offered £200 in store or £190 on line

Decisions decisions decisions :smt012

Didnt the Police scrap flip front helmets because of something to do with safety? Mightve been military police.. although im sure it was civpol.
