I got asked to go into the surgery recently to discuss statins with the nurse (we have different doctors now as the previous ones retired). I was a little annoyed as the blood tests I'd had were about something completely different and they had clearly slipped the cholesterol one in just cos they were taking blood.
Anyway i told the nurse that statins had made me feel bad - (and no it definitely was NOT in my imagination!) - that I had tried them and that I didn't intend to go on them again.

Whereupon she looked my record and told me that in fact my cholesterol was LOWER than the last time I was tested - the time my then GP said I was only borderline for needing statins anyway.

I've always eaten healthy food but counting calories online is a great incentive to be even more careful, and to take more exercise as that 'earns' more calories to consume in your daily allowance!

Over recent months I've found 5lb of the stone I lost, started counting again a week ago and already lost one of them, if anyone wants to give it a go, try

IME and IMHO NICE are a waste of time the only people presenting evidence to them are all employed in some way by the pharma companies ... So not biased then and there is a shit load of money in writing those arguments.
For the avoidance of doubt and for the benefit of my wife, not everything I may say here will be absolutely true I may on ocassion embellish a little for effect.
That said when it comes to motorbikes, I like to ride side saddle with a nice frock

apologies geoff

bullshit

NICE does have an agenda - to suggest the most appropriate and cost effective drug therapy

it has no connections with the pharma companys

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Apologies Pete
Bollocks :smt003
Worked for 5 years for one of the companies paid to present the arguments even worked on a few of them and to say the data is selectively chosen is an understatement. Whilst NICE itself may have good aims it doesn't do the same research patterns.
The people presenting the arguments are exclusively paid for by these companies and at some point most will have benefitted directly or indirectly from the pharma industries methods
