We got here late on Sunday night, made later by the plane getting in to Manchester 45 min late from previous trip. Sunday was the first day of 4 days forecasted for heavy rain and thunderstorms, (although there should be 7 days of sun & 24 degrees to follow).
Did not disappoint, and the drive from the airport to the villa at Skala, was interesting, with strong warnings from the car hire bloke about how bad the roads could be after a long hot dry period, then torrential rain, insisting we stick to 20 to 30 kph. The roads here are narrow, winding, with no cats eyes, very few white lines and even make the horrible patched up roads of home look good! (??????? ... YES).
Took an hour or so, and seemed to be avoiding some of the same potholes I dropped into the last time I was here 3 years ago. When we got to Skala, the rain briefly stopped, so we stopped off to get some milk, bread and stuff, but whilst in the kiosk, the heavens opened again and the road turned back into a river. Drove the last mile or so up into the foothills to the villa, round a couple of small landslides and got drowned unloading! It's nice to be on holiday.
The villa is nice, done in a rustic style with fabulous views and has a great infinity pool with a view over to Zante, when you can see it! It also comes much cheaper at this time of year and is really peaceful.
Yesterday, started with more of the same, then cleared up later, so we got out for some food and later a really nice meal. Quite pleasant and 23 degrees, then got home, and back to normal. We had an incredible electric storm all night, the type you usually get at this time of year in the Med. I slept through most of it but Terri hardly got any sleep at all, still the same this morning, which is why I'm here boring you lot, while she is in bed!
Should start to clear up during tomorrow, then seven days of sun, hope so.
Can now just see Zante again and it has just stopped raining, Terri has just come to life, so better get a cuppa on for her.
Then just need to mop the floors in the places where the roof has leaked.
