Well Andy
I remember a local teacher complaining that they only got the same award as nurses.....
In 20 something years of nursing I have had one Xmas off... As I am not a Christian I am not bothered but I would have l liked the choice !
We are paid less, work more hours and are supposed to be happier because we have a vocation
I will always back teachers etc, but at least they can strike etc - effectively we cannot

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...
Now we're going off topic.Aladinsaneuk wrote:Well Andy

I was backing up Musclebiker's comment about teachers and the very distorted perception of them.
I was not comparing with the nursing fraternity (as the son of a nurse I'm hardly going to knock them).
... and talking of going off topic, back to Blinkey! What line of work are you in Jay?

hope that works out ok Jay
and if it helps at all, and this scares the shit out of me, Kings Lynn hospital have just closed 3 wards ..... obviously not as a cost saving exercise but... it seems they have saved a lot of money - naturally enough the managers etc have been redeployed whilst the care, nursing and ancillary staff are having to reapply for non existant posts....

Thankyou HowardHowardQ wrote:Sorry to hear the bad news about the "Consultation Period" Jay.
Hope it all works out for you.
Been through a slightly strange year myself, as the Council came back with a third year of voluntary redundancies and I finally went for it at the end of June as you know.
In my case it became a no brainer, as I was only 6 months off retirement anyway, I got more money this year by going than keeping working.
I still miss the job, as I was a workaholic for most of my life, but got away with a clean break.
A lot of people also took redundancy expecting to get new jobs and many have struggled. Think it through carefully before you jump, the only really safe way is to try and line something up before redundancy, but not easy at this time.
Good luck!

Blinkey, maybe find out who Tarmac use as outsource contractors, so if some twat accountant decides its cheaper to contract out....
you know your stuff... ideal man for the job !
Contracting out costs more than in house but the higher cost can be offset against tax and profit thus saving money in a money losing way, if you are a tosser bean counter.
Best of luck mate, hope you dont need it

That's what I meant, it's stressful! My son in law has just been through this, hisd company is closing the works here and moving to Birmingham or similar and he had to decide whether to try and find something else or wait till he was redundant. In the end he did find somewhere else and he started this week but it's been a major stress for him, I think it's the third time it's happened.blinkey501 wrote:Er bobbi thats not what i meant... Consultation period means they can make me redundant. I am not the only one who is under threat of redundancy, there is quite a few.BikerGran wrote:How many more names will they think up for management harassment?
Will they ever learn that you don't get the best from people by putting them under stress?
I am updating my CV but do i jump before being pushed?. Redundancy does not worry me has such, but i am frustrated due to not knowing my plight. The company i work for has kept their cards close to their chest through out the merger and their intentions. A worrying time for a lot of people.
