Same happens to me and I an only 22. Its not about age though (if that is what you are insinuating), its more about the mental workout (constantly looking for things, calculating, etc).

It will always be worse on roads you do not know; on local roads you know where to go, roughly what speeds you can do, etc. No umming and aaring about it.

Right bring doing some experimenting. ... Proper scientific like and have shown that the heat type can affect air flow over the shoulder area and that the double bubble screen shoulders also funnel air into that area so you could get some of those BMW type fins and stick them in that area of the screen to move the airflow or so e other such bodgery.
For the avoidance of doubt and for the benefit of my wife, not everything I may say here will be absolutely true I may on ocassion embellish a little for effect.
That said when it comes to motorbikes, I like to ride side saddle with a nice frock

My neck has been causing me more and more issues, which in turn when riding the bike was causing more stiffness.
It turns out i have a trapped nerve which is causing the muscles around my neck to stiffen up and also give me head ache and feel like sh*t...
I have seven weeks of anti inflamatries, and if that fails i have to go for physio... Happy days :smt012

A Carbon-fibre lid might help too - I've suffered a lot with bad necks and headaches. Switching to a lightweight lid hasn't fixed it but it's helped.

Yeah - I've never thought of seeing anyone about it (but then I never go to the doc unless someone forces me)

Trapped nerves are shit. I found the physio useful for the stretching exercises they showed me. I did my shoulder at work years ago and I aggravated it again last week playing silly buggers. Still, having a numb hand comes in useful sometimes.
