first track day

Home safe and sound. I'm not quite as f'kd as my tires. I was out in the advanced group and when I saw the kit in the garages and waiting to go out on track I did suggest they move me down a notch. I was told that there were not many in the advanced group and loads in the inters and to go out and see how things went. Even the sighting laps seemed quite quick any way I didn't overtake any one and was overtaken on numerous occasions but was able to stay in touch with quite a few. No one complained so I stayed in that group until the end. However my last session was red flagged and the marshal said if I wanted to make up for it I could join the next group. That was the novices; any way I'm glad I did that because it did allay my doubts that maybe I'd made the wrong choice in electing for the advanced session. That group had other road bikes, Milies and stuff not the slicked out pure race R1s, Aprillia V4s and BWWrr's I had been having to contend with, so I got my day's share of passes in that one session.
Rockingham is a grippy track with some tricky bits to it, but plenty of run off. It was hard on the brakes though and not as flowing as some. Not sure if i'm doing another just yet as I'd best see if the motor is ok...

Hi Graham, It was the Falco! The BM needs a bit more fettling before I try any sustained abuse of the motor. I took you advice an fitted new tires. Opted for Michelean road 3 front and road 4 in 190/55 on the back. The rear got a bit fried and that was on the standard 42 PSI, I hate to think what it'd have been like if I'd dropped the pressure. Still usually wear them out down the center so might not make much of difference to its life.

Glad you had a good one!
I like Rockingham, grippy and smooth and no real long straights. Few too many right-handers though.
Better if its on the infield circuit so you don't have to go up the banking.
Must get back into trackdays this summer. Think the Falco would be good on any track, bit like my TRX850 was.

These are not the Droids you're looking for...
The ride home and a subsequent trip to work has normalised things a little but I think you'll get the general idea...
PS. Motor seems ok, I think my latest diy air filter mod didn't work to well as I found that the air filter and block of retaining foam had come a drift and had been rattling around loose in the air box. No wonder it seemed a little flat at times.

Them "doners" make quite good camera bikes too.
Play spot the old boy on the Falco...
