Ohlins shock

will probably have an Ohlins shock for sale in the next day or so if anyone is interested as I have now acquired two of them

I bought this ( let me know if link doesn't work)

I have also acquired another Ohlins spring which is in better condition than the one on it so you can choose but the one in those pictures would need powder coating IMHO

All seems okay but basically I was offered a newer one and went for it.

Andy collects Sach blue-spring shocks, you collect Ohlins shocks.

On balance I'd say you've got the right idea...

I've never planned to collect blue spring shocks - they've just turned up uninvited.

I had to work up to it I am still clearing out my supply of White spring sachs, I am clean out of yellow but I do have 1 and a half blue yet to sell ... Andy ? Over to you ... One of them is polished :)

I was actually toying with the idea the other day (OK, after the Aprilia Massive meet) of trying to get the kit together to do suspension work. I've had an unhealthy interest in it for over 20 years, but I've always been put off by the cost of the equipment layout.

At a pretty basic level you'd need:

Tools to take forks apart
Tools to take shocks apart
Tools to put shocks back together
Tools to put forks back together
Tools to remove springs from shocks without taking all your fingers off
A big cylinder of Nitrogen to re-charge shocks (can see that going down really well with SWMBO)
A starter pack of shims at the very least
Lots of big hammers
Proper Oil
A degreasing bath and degreaser
A compressor and air pistol to blow shims clean
A magnifying glass to find said shims again
A f**k off vice
Things to hold fork stanchions and sliders in vice without marking them

And most importantly:

A clue

I feel I may be disadvantaged on a few fronts...

I feel so inadequate, I only have one Blue Spring shock, hiding somewhere in the garage.

Having said that, I have just remembered that I put it in the Ohlins box that the White Spring shock came in, after being replaced by the Ohlins early in its life.

So a happy ending after all, it does have an exalted final resting place

May I humbly venture to suggest that you leave some of the more sophisticated shocks to the likes of K-tech, Reactive and Revs and specialise in the niche market of the Sachs blue-spring shock.

That would cut down significantly on the list of required tools.

Funny you should say that. As a totally expendable item sacrificed towards the Greater Knowledge I reckon a Blue-spring Sachs has no equal. I may have to start acquiring them by stealth for my nefarious purposes.

I feel the hazy beginnings of A Plan starting to take shape out of the mist...
