Hi Katie! Good to see you back on here. As you can see, the old place is pretty cobwebbed and unloved. Why are you selling the Tuono? I must admit I've always fancied them, but the cost of ownership puts me off. (I'm too tight, basically...)

Hi Graham - I do pop in occasionally but yeah, all is quiet here!

I traded the S1000RR in for a new Tracer 7 (I know, I know) as my commute is now nearly 200 miles round trip and I couldn't face doing that hunched over for the whole trip! It's as comfortable as a Futura, fairly light, and dead manoeuvrable. Oh, and indecently economical (round trip on one tank!!!) :smt003

Trouble is, riding a bike which you can abuse the hell out of without feeling frustrated that the UK roads aren't up to it, means that getting back on a hyper-fast bike just feels (bizarrely) a but dull. If you get to regularly use the bike on quiet roads, or like taking it on track, or just want a bit of insanity occasionally, it's perfect. Oh, and I toured France on it last year so it can be (relatively) practical!

No doubt that the sports bike itch will start again fairly soon but I don't know what I want next so will leave a gap in the garage, staring tantalisingly at me for a while... :smt002

Blimey - 200 miles round trip? I did 100 miles round trip for nearly 10 years and that was enough. I don't know what route you take, I'm pretty sure that a Tracer 7 would manage it far better (and much cheaper) than a S1000RR or a Tuono V4. Can I recommend a KTM Duke 690 (R) for that vacant space? They are just so much fun. You'd probably want to swap it for one of its bigger siblings for any touring Europe shenanigans, though...

Bit burnt by the 1290 SDGT as far as KTM are concerned. A heady mix of fabulous power and some beautiful engineering combined with dodgy electronics and appalling service! Mind you, I then went to BMW and Aprilia so that shows how much I know... :smt003

Half the battle is finding a decent dealer near you that services your bike. That makes such a difference. Just because a shop is a main dealer means very little, I've found. I tend to use little independent shops, but of the bikes I own all but the KTM are electronics-free (except electronic ignition, obvs...) I'm in Sheffield but I chose to get my KTM serviced by Redline in Loughborough, even though there's a KTM dealer in Sheffield. Now it's out of warranty I'll be doing the servicing myself, but if it's your daily transport that probably isn't an option.
