Only for sale due to loss of garaging in upcoming house move:

2001 with only 18.1k miles (and all MoTs to corroborate)

Just two prior owners, the previous one for 11 years.

Several upgrades (originals available where appropriate):
- high level stainless cans
- Galfer 'wave' front discs
- Penske rear shock
- Aprilia steering damper
- MPL upgraded clutch slave cylinder

The latter were done by my local Aprilia main dealer when also fitting new Pirelli Angels/ service/valve clearances etc. less than a couple of hundred miles since.

Based 30 mins from Gatwick, between East Grinstead and Tunbridge Wells.

Love the LC...

This makes me wonder whether I have the time, energy and inclination to restore my 350LC - one of the first batch in the country in August 1980. Or should I sell it on and probably save myself a lot of grief...?

As much-publicised by the classic motoring press, unless you derive the pleasure from the restoration process itself, it can be surprisingly (shockingly?) expensive and you never get near to getting your outlay back when you come to sell (which may or may not be important to everyone but is a factor for most).

If the pleasure comes from owning/riding, personally, I'd look for one that has been done to a high standard by someone in the know.

But, that's just one approach!

I'm toying with the idea of de-cluttering my garage of a 1966 Honda CB77, a 1966 Honda CB72 and a 1980 Yamaha RD350 LC (all non-runners).

And then cluttering it again with a KTM Duke 690 R, using the proceeds...

Really? Why did you sell it, if you don't mind me asking? I'm thinking of trying to get my kicks at slightly less licence-losing speeds. Seems like a modern-day 4-stroke equivalent of an LC to me. Is that a fair summary?

You're right and one piece of recurring angst when riding the LC and the KTM was (whilst the LC appealed for different reasons, emotionally) practically, the KTM does everything the LC does, rather better, etc etc..

I am buying a multistrada with a view to consolidating, and despite the overlap, was thinking of hanging onto the KTM.. and the friend who stores my exhausts and accessories, dropped them off and asked to buy the KTM.

I do have to sell some for lack of space so, a tad apprehensively, I agreed.

The KTM is a great and versatile bike. Mine had very low miles since I used to enjoy it around local B roads, where its torque, lightness, and handling were a joy. I thought, alongside the Falco, it made a great combo.

The 'cons' I found of the Duke: it is limited for motorway-type use (and I had reduced the gearing on mine which emphasised this), and compared to the prior model, the engine lost a bit of character when not fully open. I'd say the prior model is more akin to what people like about the LC...but the 2012 onwards model is a much better all-rounder.
