TomTom Rider or Garmin Zumo 660 ?

#1 Post by GregD-UK » Fri May 27, 2011 7:48 pm

Hi all,

Am considering getting a GPS for the van, but, thought why not get one than I can use on the bike if needs be. Pro's and Con's please. Have heard that the TomTom's refresh rate is kinda slowww...

Cheers.

I use a garmin zumo

I cannot fault it - I am biased!

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

I have a Zumo 550 for the bike and a TomTom Go730 for the car.
I prefer the TT's graphics but for planning trips, recording tracks and all sorts of other info I have the zumo, not sure what the TT Rider is like in that respect.

I've been told the Garmin 550 is better than the 660 - can't remember why tho.......

Mainly because it is cheaper....

Garmin maps are available for download... And it works as an mp3 player if you want music while you ride

People's preference really depends on which they are used to. Those that have used Tom Toms in the past prefer them and those that have used Garmins prefer them - mainly to do with the familiarity of the HMI.

It's hard to find people with no experience of either to get an un-biassed new-user view or someone with equal experience of both to give a longer term comparison.

Of the two, I prefer to use garmins myself.

Hi all,

OK, guess leaning towards zumo then, as for the usage, I am working for a company who sends me all over the north east and loads of ickle roads that are like tracks :smt017 Need a good refresh rate, if I decide to chuck it on the bike and go for a long ride....

Will go for the 660 methinks, cheers all :smt002

Hi, I use a Garmin.

How do you plot routes for the Tom Tom? can you do this in detail on the P.C?

Reason i ask this is the Mapscourse programme that Garmin use really takes some beating, IMO.

Hi all,

Still trawling the web for decent price :smt002 Leaning towards the Zumo 660 to be honest.
