Hi all, Just a heads up to Lidl selling Bike gear on 8 th March.

I'd not buy anything from Lidl.

I was thinking about the small tankbag. Ideal for your Toll fare and tickets in France.
Yes I know it's magnetic but I was thinking off taping some magnets of an old Tankbag onto my tank

the knee warmers, what a great idea! as are the first aid kit and back protector. Owt is better than nothing, that cheap maybe a few more will wear them!

spare bike cover at that price is worth having.. and the small tank bag might just magnetically stick onto the fuel cap

Bollox, something better than nothing if its not fit for purpose, which is what Lidl (IMO) stands for

tbh - the thermals are a good buy at that price

as is the intercom set - for a fiver - has to be worth a punt

when they did a similar thing last year i picked up a couple of items - the battery charger and map set for a couple of quid a pop was worth while i think - so go along and just see if it is ok

LIDL are big in Germany, and the germans don't consider them as crap, in fact they are the only supermarket in many of the smaller rural towns across Germany

Wouldn't buy a lid but the back protector I will look at for sure

I bought a 1-piece waterproof oversuit for my son last year from Lidl and one or two other bits - they've been great.

Hopefully this means that Aldi will soon have their bike stuff too - last year I bought some boots (they have been excellent), a 2 piece waterproof oversuit (also good but my other son ripped the trousers cycling yesterday - that's why I'm hoping they are soon back in Aldi), a tank bag (yeah - magnetic so I have to bungee it on - but cheap), a lock and chain and one or two other bits.
Wouldn't buy a helmet from there but most other things are fine.

This year may be in for more as youngest son is about to start out on a 50, eldest on a 125 .... and maybe the middle one as well ..... so need some more kit in the household!

Indeed, Lidl, Martkauf, Aldi and Novo are HUGE Companies in Germany. European standards tend to be a lot higher than in UK as far as what you get for your money goes.
The Helmets are EC <insert rest of stuff> 05 Approved, which is a standard that has been said to be higher than our often scoffed at ACU standard, yet everyone looks for the gold ACU mark on the back of the Helmet. (I do too)

So far I have:
a Tankbag bought from Lidl in Germany
a Set of Waterproofs (6 years old now) that remain waterproof, also bought from Lidl
a cheap intercom unit bought from Lidl (however only used twice with the kids on the back for short journeys)

All decent kit that has stood the test of time. Pointless reviewing them as theyre no longer available, but I will gladly recommend the kit they supply. It is 'your own choice' however the quality (do they do the job, not do they look Gucci) and price cannot be knocked. Theyre better value for money that Hein Gericke, that's for definate. (I used to spend a small fortune in Hein Gericke, Osnabruck on kit that didnt do half as well a job as the Lidl kit, despite the HG Hype)

I hear what you're saying about the helmets Kwackerz - but the intrinsic quality is not the thing that worried me so much ..... more observing several of the ones in Aldi last year bouncing on the floor when someone knocked them and then being replaced on the stack for sale.

I'm confident that most of the kit is of good quality - and I have bought bike things from there - but helmets that may have been bounced are more of a concern. I guess the same could happen at a bike shop but at least the punters and staff would have more knowledge of the risks than your average staff and punters in a cut-price supermarket.

Some of you may remember and know the Aldi motorcyle gear they seem to do annually, about 2 years ago I bought a motorcycle chain & padlock for about £12.

It is big and heavy but I didn't expect it to be much good and we used it to chain up my sons paper round bike via a Oxford ground anchor at the side of the house. For 2 yrs in all weathers this cheap lock has sat out there just quietly doing it's job.

3 months ago, my son asked top have a look at the lock, as he said someone had attempted to nick the bike (a cheap £10 bag of bolts) amazingly they had attacked the lock & chain with a set of bolt cutters and both items had withstood the attack with barley a blemish. Now before you all think they has used a cheap crappy set of bolt cutters take it from me they had then turned their attention to the ground anchor and unbelievably managed to cut clean through the anchor for about 50mm before finally realising that the bike wasn't worth it (it never was trust me)

I was amazed at the quality of this kit, and have no problems in recommending it to anyone
