I like AGV's as well, fit very well on me, but its the designs, more suitable for scooter riders methinks (and Rossi reps)

Hmmm, how many miles a year do you ride?

Across the 5 bikes I've had in 6 years and allowing for 2 years where I only did 2k each year I must have done 60+ thousand miles. :smt001 I've had 3 helmets the first deffo saved me head (an AGV it had a big rock wedged in the side of it after my off on the A3) the other 2 have been changed because of the mileage I've done (I change them after about 25K miles)

I thought it was a life expectancy of time not milage.
3Years for Fibreglass shell and 5 year for composite shell.
This is what i've always gone by.
But in my experience you get what you pay for.
I've had £100 Shark and the lining whent big, but Arai is still good at the end of 5 years.
So am on my second Arai
Adventure before Dementia.

My first helmet was a Shark Foggy replica. Changed that coz the inner enlarged. Pity, was a nice lid :smt009

Well if it's a foggy replica it WAS originally made for someone with an expanding head. And ego

Think the first decent helmet I paid real money for was a Bell and I wore it fo about six years it was followed by an AGV and a Nolan with a couple of Shoei's to follow.
The Shoei has been a comfy helmet but I'm considering a flip up lid now as they are much better than a few years back.
I would like to know if anyone has used a Ceberg lid, on the face of it (excuse the pun) it is a cheap helmet but It's really attractive feature is it's inner integral sun visor. I can't wear a tinted visor legally that's any use in bright sun so maybe this helmet is worth a try.

Anyone know of a similar design with a inner visor?

I am using a laser flip front with internal sun visor and I love it :smt003 no worries about dark visor or sunglasses that make your head hurt :smt010
A mate went from laser to caberg and he said the wind noise was less on the caberg

Hey Gio .... I wasn't being serious .... it was an attempted (and, obviously, failed) ironic comment on your unfortunate bikeless status.

As for your 10k+ per year average, Hats Off to you .... no hang on ... that doesn't seem to be quite the right comment for this thread .....

As for me, I don't do the kind of mileage on the bike I used to. I live closer to work - so commuting is less, I have to take my company car to work whenever I need to use it for business or whenever I may need to use it for business, my wife has given up riding pillion - so if we go anywhere together we have to go by car, we are a family of 5 so if more than 2 of us need to go somewhere, it's the car again. These days I'm just glad to pick and choose - there's almost never a week I don't ride and as long as I'm enjoying the fact that I can and do ride, that's good enough for me.

BTW, sorry Thumper for this minor thread hijack

I had the caberg, but have now switched to a lazer - both flip up, both with sunvisers

the new lazer has less wind noise than my old caberg

reason for change - the lining in the caberg had shrunk inside 6 months to become unsafe imho - was a good helmet though

oh - if you have a large nose, as I do, then you may find the caberg is a split nose waiting to happen if you fall off.... it is very close and if you fall off, you will split your snout if the sun visor is down

Another shout for AGV. I'm on my third one and just can't seem to change although I'm up fer a new one this year.

I quite fancy an Arai but the numerous reports of excessive wind noise puts me off a bit tbh.

It just needs to be a good fit, look reasonable and be able to withstand some of this :smt021 :smt075

Thats what I used to think, I was put right about it.

I was told that the average rider does 4 to 5 k a year, so if your helmet lasts 5 years there's your 20-25k mileage.

I'm changing mine again when I'm back on a bike as even though its got another 10k left in it, I hate the damn thing, its far to noisy :smt013

Thanks Moose and thanks again Aladinsane that's good info and no I don't have a large nose :smt003

As for foggy big head well met him once, he was a perfect gentleman.
Never rated him as one of the all time grates he was all about raw aggression.
I recon he owed more to his Ducati than his skill as a racer, just an opinion mind.

oooo

daring to criticise Saint Foggy... LOL

For me up there with Mike the Bike, Bazza, Joey D and rossi - all had/have something special, and I would put Surtees as the very best - he won in both bikes and cars - the only one to do it
