...yep looked at this, but was put off by the squidgy case. The window of hard case I have is made of a heavier kind of screen protector film that people stick on. Operating the phone through it is faultless.Kwackerz wrote:quite like this one.. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Waterproof-13 ... 1c1f95f39b

Made it to Budapest comfortably in two days. Knowing that the bluetooth would run out of juice in 3-4 hours I opted to just plug my headphones in most of the time. The plug suffered a bit - wind blast pulling it half-out occassionally causing my tunes to cut out - but I never missed a direction. Even on the fork stem mount, looking down at the thing was dangerous, but I didn't really even glance at it until I was navigating to a local destination. It found me my mid-way hotel, a western union office, and my parents place in 'Pest easily. It didn't know the speed limit for Hungary, but it was clearly posted so no biggie. Because the maps are almost 'open-source' - very, very cheap but not quite free - and because I was doing this with data-off, I didn't find out about road works until I was in them. On autobahns 1-2km of 80-100kmh every so often didn't really make difference to journey time (losing my debit card from an unzipped pocket at speed did - but that's another story
).
In hindsight, Tim's fag packet comments make more sense now but it was soooo nice not even really having to think at motorway junctions. Weather was HOT but dry and my Gericke (RIP) vented, heat reflecting, summer leather jacket wasn't miserably uncomfortable until I had to stop. Met a dude in Calais who had been busted for not having the Austrian toll vignette on his bike - he had been fined a years tolls - so of course I got mine. I hadn't realised you had to pay to drive in Hungary however. No biggie. No nice sticker for the Hungarian vignette, but they did take down my registration details.
I'm here to spend time with Ma & Pa so don't know how much riding I'll do until it's time to head home. Might pop out to a supermarket to pick them up some bits and pieces, check my tyre pressures etc. Dunno why I waited over two years to get my 'feet-wet' on the continent again.

Great stuff Kerry.
I've done the headphone plug-in too and agree it's less than ideal but works.
Now .... the electrical gremlins, the kids with sticks and the rabid dog ...... they'll be waiting for your return journey ....

I think that the stem mounts are far from ideal - too low down and too close to the rider. That's why I made a mount for mine to fit under the double bubble.k1w1boy wrote:Even on the fork stem mount, looking down at the thing was dangerous, but I didn't really even glance at it until I was navigating to a local destination.

How long does a fully charged iphone last whilst using GPS and no external power source? About 2 hours max?
