#1 Post by FlyingKiwi » Sun Mar 11, 2007 3:19 pm

Cameras that is, not engine bits.
Had a video mounted to the tank of my Firestorm but it won't fit the Falco cause the Sat navs in the way :smt005 .
Anyone had any experience with the 4Kam set up or any other

Just had a chance to look at the 4kam site, and there 'ready to go' package looks pretty good.

http://www.4kam.co.uk/action_ready_package.htm

200 quid and you're away.

(No, I don't have one and whilst I'd like one, I can't justify one.)
It's the V-twin thing. There's just something about it that inline-4s don't have at all, and V-4s don't have enough of.

Sorry I can't offer any helpful advice.

Just to say that I tend to believe that.... 'the minute you point a camera at it it falls over.'

Just tempting fate

Oh and if you get stopped and they see a camera it can only make things worse? Especially if they take a look :smt009

Still, each to their own etc...

My brother had an Archos 604 wifi recorder with Archos helmet cam ...bloody marvelous piece of kit!

Not only did it record straight from the helmet cam, but doubled up as a TV hard drive recorder, plus you could download dvd's on your computer then drop them into the archos and play them straight through the TV...no need to convert :smt003 also it plays mp3,mp4 video's all sorts of file types, surf the net etc etc

But going back to the recorder and helmet cam ...the camera was powered straight from the Archos recorder (some cam's need a seperate battery pack that means more bulk to carry!) the camera has a record button built into the connection lead ...easy to reach while you are riding.

I have a few videos from last summer, I'll try to post them somewhere for viewing to see the quality

I've got a cam setup on the Falco, the velcro patch is on the lower body panel and its all wired to the battery with disconnects for the power to camera and hard disk recorder.

You can see the stuff I gothere.

Bullet cam http://www.actioncameras.co.uk/Wired_Bu ... meras.html I got the 520 lines one its better even if a bit expensive.

Hard disk http://www.actioncameras.co.uk/Hard-disk_Recorders.html the top one.

the rest of the cables/power cables I got from Maplins

Shop around tho prices have tumbled the last few months.

Also to give you an idea of how good the recorder is an hours video is about 750 meg.

Thanks Okamoto,

Quite good quality footage. I guess when I win the Lotto I know where some of the loot will be going.

Just played it and it was slightly jumpy but I think that's my aging PC! and shite broadband speed!....but you loose a fair bit of quality when uploaded to a site and replayed back from there.
I knew a chap that used to hire them out to motocross lads and they stood up well to the abuse ...cost my brother about £500 for the full monty kit! but prices are loads better now.
have fun with whatever you choose. :smt003

I've just had a bit of a look at this footage capturing malarkey and stumbled upon the AEE MD80 and its alter-ego the Veho Muvi.

I found this link of the MD80 which shows how the guy mounted it on his helmet (piece of cake) and the footage he shot (looks excellent to me).
http://www.maxi-muppets.co.uk/WPInt/?p=203

The best price I've found it for is £44.12 +£3.95 delivery (actually, this is the Muvi branded version):
http://www.edirectory.co.uk/pf/mia/d/ve ... d/11054927

But even better, I've found the even smaller, uprated (though I'm not sure exactly in what way other than "video and audio") MD91 at £49.99 delivered ... and this one includes the silicone weatherproofing cover:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ricco-Digital-S ... hisProduct

If only I'd had one of these on when that muppet knocked me off earlier in the year .... it would have been even more of an open and shut case.

Think I may buy me one.

Probably a lot of other things it would be useful for too.

A bit of an update ............

I decided to go for the MD91 - advertised as an upgraded version of the MD80. It's a bit smaller and is supposed to have better Audio and Video.
After a mis-delivery of an MD80 (which went back), my MD91 turned up.
It's a really nice camera and I clipped it to my helmet and shot some footage of my journey home from work. The footage was great (with the Class6 card I bought) - almost as great as the riding skills LOL.
However, in the bottom right hand corner of the screen is a great big, green timestamp.
The software supplied with the camera allows you to change the time but does not let you turn it off. Websearch turned up nothing so I emailed AEE Customer Service (the manufacturer) and the company that sold it to me to find out how to turn it off.
AEE never replied, the seller replied that it can't be turned off.
Undaunted I found 3 ebay sellers of the MD91 and, posing as a prospective purchaser, asked how this feature is controlled. Two replied but the replies were pointless.
I searched 'tinternet and still found nothing about how to do this on an MD91 but I did find out how to do this on the MD80 (the cheap MD80 copies with the plastic bodies and push buttons have this problem). So, I tried all of these methods for the MD80 on the MD91 with no success.

Fortunately under the distance selling legislation I was within my rights to cancel my order which I did. The seller was extremely understanding and helpful. I said that I'd take a refund or an MD80 in exchange - they shipped an MD80 immediately - which I received yesterday.

Not had chance to try the MD80 yet - I'll report when I do.
At least it's a genuine AEE one with metal body.

So Summary:
  • MD91 - Nice camera - good video for a small camera - really small - only buy one if you are happy to have a timestamp showing on everything you record
