This is my last week at work, as I am taking early retirement and I finish work on Friday.
So drinks are on me all week!

After more than 37 years as an IT Manager, working continuously for two Local Authorities it's time to call it a day.
Rotherham MBC have got rid of well over a thousand staff recently and I applied for retirement redundancy and was accepted.

In total I have worked in I.T. for 45 years, although it was called "Working in Computers" when I started.
I started as a Computer Operator working on a 1440 IBM mainframe with just 14k memory many years ago at Stanley Tools.
Then it became "Data Processing" and later it became known as I.T..
I.T. today is a million miles from where it started.
Not sure how I'll get on, as I have been a bit of a workaholic most of my life, but I've had enough of the stress and just want to enjoy my retirement, including a lot more time out on the bikes, if we ever get a summer.
Anyway as I said, the drinks are on me.

P.S. Had a day off today and got some new tyres fitted on to my recently aquired OZ wheels, will fit them to the Falco next weekend.

Enjoy your retirement .... and seeing as you've failed to post this in the Virtual Bar, I can only conclude that it really is time you moved on from a career in IT

:smt005

More time for riding the bike - got to be good :smt003

EDIT: ..... so who moved this into the bar then???

Oh go on then.

I'm another one who's done n+ years in IT but in the private sector. I'm glad the Gov has increased the retirement age so I can't be pushed out to grass (poverty) for another couple of years. Jealouse moi? Non!

"well maybe a little bit."

Sorry! I only left it there for a couple of mins.
Was busy on a bloody spreadsheet for work and not concentrating, will be concentrating on drinking in the virtual bar 100% soon.
Well if I'm not out on the bike that is.

I will be exactly six months off retirement age when I go, so won't get another chance like this.
I did not apply the last couple of times they asked for people to volunteer (??), and probably would not have been accepted if I had.
The Authority is desperate to get rid of people now.
The redundancy money helps a bit and will boost the "Gold Plated" :smt005 Local Authority pension.
