Hi just joined the group i have a r1200gs from 2005 which I've had for 15 years. i live in SW France and have travelled all over Europe on over the years on and off road using the TET etc .. the bike has never missed a beat until now. i decided to give her a wash the other day as we're in lock down and i'd nothing better to do, now i find that i don't have any commands working on the handle bars except the starter, no high beam, horn, indicators, trip etc .. also no rear or brake lights and no ABS. The bike runs fine. as this bike (as i under stand? ) has no fuses i'm really stumped !! have any of you any ideas. i wish i hadn't washed it, it wasn't even dirty !! (washing it may just be a coincidence) sorry to start off with a problem but needs must .Thanks. all the best, Rob

Hi and welcome,
I am not familiar with your bike so I may not know if this is a common problem, like you I'm guessing water has got in somewhere probably around the dashboard display or ignition area.
You could try electrical contact cleaning spray on suspected connections.
If no luck you can download ' tuneEcu ' app onto smartphone tablet or PC, then with the correct OBD2 leads/adaptors you can perform diagnostics on your device.
Loads of tutorials on YouTube
tuneEcu is freeware on Windows, small charge for Android, written by a French guy Alain Fontaine, the guy is a genius!
Good luck and don't go crazy in lockdown

I'm in the department (32) Gers in the middle of a triangle between Auch, Toulouse and Montauban. I've been here for 31 years.

Electrical system.
Rated load of onboard socket = 5a
Fuses.
All circuits are electronically protected, so plug-in fuses are no longer necessary. If an electronic fuse trips and de-energizes a circuit, the circuit is active as soon as the ignition is switched on after the fault has been repaired
(yes there is a fuse for the alarm which is fitted separately)

Cool - not a million miles from us (when we're allowed to visit). We're in 34 (Herault) in a little village about 15kms from Beziers. But i have no idea when we'll next be able to get back. As soon as we can, I'll be over.

Hi, thanks for all the response, just to let you know how things panned out. Well i tried checking the various connectors and wiring etc.. and disconnecting the accessories that i have added over the years all to no avail , so i got in touch with my BMW dealer here in France towards the end of lock-down and they gave me a RDV for the 1st of June. so meanwhile the bike is in the garage waiting for the 1st , so a few days before its time to take her off to BMW i (no idea why) decide to turn the key and to my utter surprise she bursts into life all bell and whistles working, i switch her off and on, off and on again still working so a little test ride ...all is well. over the next few days i do about 300 mile and all is well. The day before my RDV with BMW i give them a ring and explain what has happened and am told " this is not the first time this has happened with the 2003-2007 model" i asked what the problem was they said " when the bike is running normally again no fault shows up on the diagnostic test, when a bike turns up with the same symptoms it and not working it usually shows up as a FZE fault " but as they have never had a bike that has righted it self in the workshop there is no way of knowing if it's the same problem.
Well i'm a happy chap iv'e got "Brass in pocket" and a ride for the mountains. Happy days. Cheers !!
