.... a cheer me up drink .....

A handful of times lately the Falco has "stumbled".
It even cut out once but I had put that down to knocking off the fast-idle a bit too early - and it started again straight away.
It has stumbled a bit more over the last few days (about once per journey) - nothing much but enough for me to think that I'm going to have to look at it sometime.
Unfortunately that "sometime" has arrived. I came to travel home from work tonight, fired the bike up .... and it cut out straight away and refused all attempts to start. Having tried most of the obvious things I called my youngest son and asked him to come and rescue me with his van.
After a while he turned up - so just before sticking it in the van I had one last attempt to start it .... and it fired up straight away. There again, before I'd got my riding kit on, it cut out again. Fortunately it restarted and I rode it home. It "stumbled" a couple of times on some bumps but got home OK.
This evening I've pulled the fairings off in preparation for going through the wiring.
Time for a drink - anyone joining me ?
P.S. The drink will also help numb my foot ..... dropped a sofa on it last night ....

Well just relax and have a potter over the weekend. Might spot a few other little jobs while you are at it. Can I remind you to treble check those sensor wires on the left hand side between the heads they are very fine and the wear in the coating hard to spot. Gives all sorts of trouble when they start shorting out.

I know you are the last person in the world that needs help with electricity, but when this was happening to me it turned out to be the fuel pump connector. Replaced the connector and it's all good again.
I'll join you on a drink though. Last night I installed the forza chip. I realised I had to put in a bullet connector to reconnect the 'derestriction' wire. Upon soldering I accidentally dropped the other end of the wire. Obviously this fell straight onto the 5x5 mm exposed bit of connector for my heated grip/cigarette circuit, melting a good section of the insulation. I then had to open the loom to cut that out and splice in another wire. Maybe now I'll not be so lazy and remove the battery when doing electrical work.

Regrettably a relaxed peruse at the weekend is not on the cards Keith - my turn to go and look after my Mum for the weekend ..... then the following weekend I'm in Krakow.
Unfortunately it's going to be the odd couple of hours in the evenings which is not so ideal for a PITA job like this.
Yes, fairings are off to look at those sensor wires.
Dale - I'd not considered the fuel pump connector - I'll add that to my list.

So easy it was the first thing I looked at (having heard a few had experienced this).

That's OK - just get yourself a drink.
I have enough clue to be going on with - an intermittent wiring fault .... which, unless I'm lucky enough find some exposed wiring, will probably be a real PITA to track down.

Spent more than enough time looking for mice in the wiring loom.
Here's to an easy fix .

I'll join you in a wee dram, Andy. My task (which I have no option but to accept) is to pull apart the new coolant hoses I so carefully (!) installed a month or so ago to try and find the cause of a leak that causes the bike to dump coolant over the garage floor after running it up to temperature. It was fine before I changed all the hoses...

Oh the fun with that one Graham!
Took me long enough to get rid of the airlocks when I changed the coolant recently - glad not to have done the hoses too.
Seriously thinking of getting some radiator bleed valves fitted at some point in the future!

Hi Andy. This sounds exactly like my previous problems. Send me you number and I will give you a call and describe what I found. I will also post a link from AF1 that pointed to a similar issue. Basically a dry joint that failed in the base of the fuel pump.

Nice one, Dave. If it's the thread on AF1 that I read some time ago, it was a real b'stard to track down. I sort of mentally filed it away as one to remember. But memory being what it is...
Yes, Andy - coolant issues are never fun. I've been over all the hose connections and tightened/clamped them up till the pips squeak, and am now reassembling the under-tank gubbins. Got as far as re-fitting the throttle bodies before the promise of Chilli con carne and a nice bottle of red stopped play...
