My problem has always been I have to tske my hand off tge levers to count the fingers with those on the other
Easier if you are from Norfolk and already have 6 fingers on each hand
For the avoidance of doubt and for the benefit of my wife, not everything I may say here will be absolutely true I may on ocassion embellish a little for effect.
That said when it comes to motorbikes, I like to ride side saddle with a nice frock

You can't be worse at counting than me. Or Flatlander .
Falco has six gears so I can count each gearshift on one hand

You don't need to know WHICH gear you're in, just that it's the right one!

Thanks for the welcome

Trouble is, I very rarely know what year I'm in , let alone what gear! :smt017

What said, doesn't matter - if it feels right it is right, and if not, just change down!

If people aren't sure it's usually too high.

Nearly threw my Firestorm over the side of a mountain hairpin because I thought I was in 3rd and changed down to '2nd'. Unfortunately, I was already in 2nd and had very little time to consider what the advantages of a slipper clutch might be before skidding to a very scary stop!

I dont need to do that, my knuckles are so large I can see all six of em through my gloves.
One of the fringe benefits of your knuckles dragging on the ground when your Falco wont start....
But I hear we are soon to get electricity in Somerset so I will be able to charge my battery and shave my palms, soles of my feet and tops of my ears :smt001
PS
Only six fingers on one hand ? You guys picked the short straw !

Glad to have helped

You don't need a gear indicator..... just go by the feel

And ignore the plebeians with slower colours....

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Hi Katie1 and welcome ... I've not had a chance to get on the forum in ages so I've probably missed welcoming a few!

So Fatboy - a Gear Indicator .... guess that's when your riding gear shows where you plan to go .... like this:

I naturally count which gear I'm in, have done it automatically for years now.

If I forget, the speed/revs is usually a good indication.

At 40mph, if I'm at 3k rpm, I'm in 4th gear.

If I'm at 70 in 6th gear, I'm at 5k rpm.

If I'm in 6th gear at 9k rpm I'm at......oh, wait....
