Hello from the sweaty tropics. I'm a 74 year old South African and I've retired to Bali where I ride a 'civilianised' BMW R 1150 RTP. As I don't trust the local mechanics, I do all the work on my bike myself, which was a steep learning curve for the conversion of my bike ( removing the Shotgun holder, emergency lights etc.) Riding here is interesting to say the least.

Welcome. mate! Never been to Bali, but it's on the bucket list. The only riding experience I have in Asia is from the Philippines, where my wife comes from. The big cities (Manila, Cebu) are frankly terrifying on a bike, but the 'off the beaten track' islands are great. What are the roads like?

Welcome!
Personally, I'd have kept the shotgun holder. Never can tell when society is going to collapse and everything goes 'Mad Max'.

It's the V-twin thing. There's just something about it that inline-4s don't have at all, and V-4s don't have enough of.
