Just finished 1 1/2 hours snow shifting, so the wife and daughter can get up the steep hill out of our estate and get to work.
Drinks are on me!
I'll probably have an extra strong Horlicks and go back to bed for an hour or so.
Will need the knock out potion as all my joints are in pain, "Arthur" doesn't like this cold weather too much.
Hope it helps me dream about ever getting out on the bikes again.

That's the trouble living up there.
You lot don't put ya heating on, so no global warming.
Live down south and everyone burns energy or we talk a lot of hot air, either way we don't see much of the white stuff

We were complaining about the rain and cold earlier, then we saw the TV news!

Now we just feel lucky!

By yesterday teatime the road was pretty clear, helped by the salt from the bin the council provide.
Then we got another 6" last nice, so it looks all nice and pretty again.
Did another hour clearing the drive and parking areas, but only went a little way up the road, hoping it melts a bit before Sunday night, will clear what is left then.
Even the bloke next door with his new Honda CRV couldn't get up the hill this morning.
He nearly came a cropper last night when he again found out that a 4x4 might be better for getting up a steep hill, but 4 wheel drive and ABS dont help a heavy 4x4 much coming down!

Didn't Bombadier once put a V60 motor in a snow mobile?
Wonder if I could design a temporary conversion for the Falco.
Then I could swap it back for the 1 week when we have summer.

Who needs biking anyway, I've got a holiday coming up somewhere warm in just over am month.

Off to Cyprus !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That should be fun, if it is still there.

I take it you live somewhere a bit rural?

My son in law had problems in the last snow getting in and out of their village (they have a couple of very steep hills) even in his 4WD Disco. He had no problem getting UP the hills, it was getting down without sliding into a ditch that was the problem.

He said today that after watching the local farmers getting around ok he's put some knobbly tires on so he's looking forward to some more snow to try them out.

And my daughter has 'snow socks' for her car which she says are fantastic.

No2 daughter lives in Southport and is currently travelling frequently between there and Sheffield where her dad is ill, so I hope the snow goes away soon so she can get to the hospital on Tuesday!

Not really.
Live 10 miles east of Sheffield just off the A57 towards Worksop, and 2 miles from M1 J31.
Sent my No. 1 Daughter to the village shop to get some milk earlier and all the main roads are cleared fine, so your daughter should be OK, but obviously she may have some issues over the Pennines.
Our problem is that we are right at the end of a Cul-de-sac, which is almost 1 in 3 at the bottom, which also means the snow drifts down as well.
There is no other way out to the main roads.
Was never that bad until 2009/2010 when we got 15" to 24" of snow, and had nearly 300 trucks stuck on the A57 for three days and nobody, (Police etc.), knew that were there! ????? !!

There was a panda car stuck in the middle.
Still it got the village on the Telly, after a Parish Councillor called in the Woodhead Mountain Rescue, who were filming with a TV crew at the time.
